That is not to say that I'm siding with 1 manufacturer. I've still got WD drives > 10 years old still running as good as the day they were bought. The last big drive I bought, a Seagate 4TB (ST4000DM005) died a month after the warranty ran out. I've stopped buying spinning rust altogether. Yet people are still fine with buying from them. Meanwhile WD literally scammed people with SMR drives, continues to have incredibly vague and misleading marketing, and continues to segment their red line with SMR trash. It's just amazing the amount of irrational hate seagate gets for their old failure fiasco. Yet the vast majority still live to 5 years in that environment. Joe blow with his little home lab server isn't going to be able to hit anywhere near the wear and tear these drives get. These drives are being absolutely hammered 24/7.
